What worked. Where marks were lost.

What went well

Marks secured

  • Bonding is secure.

Ionic, covalent and metallic bonding were explained correctly.

  • Equations are accurate.

Symbol equations and state symbols were handled well.

Where marks were lost

Fix these first

  • Mole calculations.

Five marks were lost across Q14 and Q18 by not converting mass to moles first.

    Seen in Q14 · Q18
  • Units.

The method in Q9 was correct, but the final unit was missing.

Teacher's note

Amara understands most of the chemistry in this paper and explains ideas clearly. Her equations and bonding answers were particularly secure. Most of the lost marks came from one repeated step: converting mass to moles before continuing a calculation. The chemistry is there; the calculation order needs more attention. Q14 and Q18 show this most clearly. Q9 was also correct apart from the missing unit.
